Late Supperintroductions by a matchmaker who has met you

Late Supper · dating introductions in Port Ellery

One introduction at a time, from someone who has met you.

Late Supper is a matchmaking service for grown-ups who have given up on the apps. There is nothing to scroll. Nadia Farouk meets you first, in person or on video. When she thinks of someone, she asks you both. If you both say yes, you are introduced. If either of you says no, nothing happens.

You

Someone Nadia has met

Two places and one candle. It stays unlit until you both say yes.

How it works

The order of the evening

Five courses, in this order, every time. Nobody skips to the end.

Late Supper

served one introduction at a time

  1. Meet a matchmaker

Nadia meets you first, over coffee in Port Ellery or on video. She asks what you would like, what you are done with, and what a good Tuesday evening looks like to you. It costs nothing, and it commits you to nothing.

Nadia vouches for you only after a real meeting, and only at her own tables. §4.4

  2. Join a table

If it seems right to you both, she invites you to a table. The invitation says who is asking, what the table is for, who can see it, and how to leave. You say yes, or no, thank you. A no is remembered, and she will not ask again unless you tell her she may.

    Curator-only-adds §3.2 §5.4 · the handshake §5.2

  3. Receive a proposal

When Nadia thinks of someone, she writes to you both, separately: one person, and her reasons, in a short note. There is no list of people to look through, and nobody can write to you before you both say yes.

No cold messages, vouched senders only §7.2

  4. Both say yes

If you both say yes, the candle is lit and she introduces you. If either of you says no, nothing happens, and neither of you learns who said it.

Both said yes. The only red on this page.

The introduction is a Kindling message §6.3

  5. Supper

The rest is yours. Nadia suggests somewhere with good light and music you can talk over. She does not come. You can leave a table at any time, in a minute, from any message.

    Leaving §5.3

What it costs

Nothing to join a table. Nothing to be introduced. You will never be asked for money before an introduction, or in order to get one.

What Nadia keeps

Your name, how to reach you, and the page you wrote about yourself, which stays on your own site. Her notes on your meeting stay in her own notebook. The table keeps a copy of your page, parsed when you said yes, and the fact that she vouched for you. When you change your page, the copy follows §2.6.

Who this is for

Adults in and around Port Ellery who want a partner, or company, and would rather be asked than browsed.

The two tables

Where Nadia seats people

Each table is a Kindling Pool that Nadia keeps. We describe them here without a single name, because the people at them are not a catalog.

Forties and fifties

The Tuesday Table

Adults in their forties and fifties in and around Port Ellery who want a partner and are done with apps. Nadia proposes introductions one at a time. Both people say yes, or nothing happens.

The matchmakers, and the money

A person, not a feed

Matchmaker at Late Supper. Twenty years of dinner parties before it had a name. Meets everyone in person first.

Late Supper Matchmakers is our one public list, so anyone can find a matchmaker and ask for a first conversation. Today it lists one person: Nadia. She signs in with OAuth, and her level is written beside her name wherever it appears §4.5.

Where the money comes from

Nobody pays to join a table, and nobody pays to be introduced. Late Supper is paid for in two ways, and neither is you meeting someone.

Nadia cooks for small private dinners in Port Ellery. That is her trade, it pays for Late Supper, and it has nothing to do with the tables.

And after an introduction has worked, some people send thanks: a note, a jar of something, a contribution of whatever size they choose, or nothing at all. We never ask before, never send a reminder, and never tie thanks to another introduction. That follows Kindling, which charges nothing at the connection layer §1.3. Its v0.2 draft describes the same kind of thanks after an introduction, and says it can never become a paywall.

What it isn’t

Some things we do not do

  • No feed. Nothing to scroll in the evening, nothing waiting in the morning.
  • No browsing. Nobody at a table sees a list of the others, and neither do you.
  • No swipe. A person is not a card to flick past. Nadia sends one name at a time, with her reasons.
  • Nothing ranked by software. Nadia chooses. No score decides who you hear about, or in what order.
  • No messages from strangers. Nobody can write to you until you have both said yes.
  • No fee to be introduced. Not now, not later, not by another name.
